Pyle Bros. Building Stone Contractors is a family owned-and-operated stone masonry contractor located in Mt. Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania. Our location allows us to serve customers all over Pennsylvania including Williamsport, State College, Bloomsburg, and Harrisburg.
Palmer Pyle opened the doors to Pyle Bros. Stone Contractors in the 1950’s, and the stone tradition has since been handed down through several generations and remained the family business. Now more than ever, as artificial stone grows popular, we are proud to sell and install a truly enduring and time-tested product of strength and beauty. Natural stone has been the building material of choice for centuries. For places of significance, meaningful public institutions, buildings and homes, natural stone has always been the strongest choice.
Natural stone forms the distinguishable outside allure of walls in homes and buildings, as well as fireplaces, piers and retaining walls. In its earliest form, masons built the walls of a structure by dry fitting or laying one stone across the joint of two stones for row after row. Once the stone was properly positioned, it lasted there for centuries. Today, stone often covers concrete block or plywood, and has the joints between the stones filled with cement. Once properly embedded up in a bed of cement, it will be pleasing and permanent.
The products featured on this site are a few of the more popular veneer stones native in our region, but not limited to. Many of the stone can also be blended together for a beautifully unique appearance.
At Pyle Bros. we feel passionately about stone as the preferred building material. Stone offers a classic, timeless, and permanent look and feel to any structure. Stone is weatherproof, and actually improves with age. It is insect-proof,
highly resistant to wear, nearly maintenance free, and possesses unparalleled longevity. It offers a variety of design choices from formal to rustic, and signifies good taste. It is quietly elegant, looks expensive, and is highly valued.
As Charles McRaven, a college professor turned stone mason and author, says in his book, Stonework Techniques and Projects: “In this age of throwaways, stone is psychologically appealing; it represents strength, stability and permanence.
It provides a sense of shelter and security and blessed simplicity when we’re tired of flimsiness and confusion.”
Properly installed stone will add value to your home. Here is a general example. A 2,000 square foot home has about 1,300 square feet of stone. At $30 per square foot installed, that’s $39,000 cost. Another exterior siding may cost as
much as $25,000 less. However, the home may be worth $100,000 to $150,000 more since it is stone.
We believe masonry is both an art and a craft. A talented stonemason can do amazing and creative things with good stone. The more you understand the difference between good and poor stonework, the more you will appreciate and value a skilled mason. We think good stonework includes a pleasing laying pattern, small joints, and the right stone in the right place.
